How much time to build PPC campaigns?2021-03-21T07:31:52+00:00

“How much time to build PPC campaigns?” is a question that requires qualification.

Some campaigns could be built and launched rather quickly. However, in today’s PPC environment there are very few situations where that would be an advisable way to proceed.

There are quite a few aspects to quality PPC campaigns that take time to work out.  PPC campaign quality benefits from a “slower cook” approach – a more methodically, systematic, and thoughtful design process. Rushing a campaign through development will be paid for in lower performance and less efficient use of ad spend.

Depending upon our workload, we will typically spend about this amount of calendar time crafting new campaigns:

• 1 to 2 weeks to design, build-out, and launch a display campaign.

• 1 to 2 weeks to design and launch a YouTube campaign (2 videos, 6 ad groups).

• 2 to 3 weeks to design, build-out, and launch a medium-scale (~300 keywords, 20 ad group) search campaign.

• 3 to 5 weeks to design, build-out, and launch a medium-scale Shopping campaign including precision optimizing the feed (~5,000 products).

A few campaigns

The time to build PPC campaigns can be shortened by “pipelining” the development of multiple campaigns. If you have more than 1, but less than 5 campaigns we will typically build/rebuild them in parallel, with some staggering of the start date for each.

Complex & enterprise-scale accounts

We have re-engineered extensively, some large accounts with almost 1,000 campaigns active.  These projects need to be carefully planned and scheduled after first running a baseline and familiarizing our team with the account. Each account is different.

Are your PPC agency services refundable?2021-03-21T07:35:39+00:00

If a client had prepaid funds on account for PPC agency services yet to be rendered and decided to stop work immediately, they would be eligible for a refund.  We would refund the unused portion of the payment for PPC agency services, pro-rated.  We do not want anyone to go away unhappy.

We would also assist the client without charge, for any transition activity, transfer of files, support of a new agency, and related activities.

Contract lock-in period?2021-03-21T07:22:44+00:00

Given prevailing practices with paid search agencies, it’s reasonable to ask “Is there a contract lock-in period for Blastoff Labs’ services?”.

Contract lock-in periods have been widely used in the digital ad industry, but we don’t believe in them.  Our clients are free to discontinue use of our services.

We have a superior way to retain our clients that works far better than, “doing business by force of contractual language”.

Of course, we do use clear, simple contracts, mostly to set expectations and define terms of service.  But as far as client retention, we believe the only way to retain long-term clients is for us to do a great job.

In our experience, the only retention model that works in any services industry is to constantly add value.

Can a PPC Campaign Be Stolen?2021-03-12T07:50:07+00:00

Can someone actually run away with a copy of a PPC Campaign?

Although digital advertising campaigns can become valuable business assets, it is difficult to steal or copy them successfully, even if access could be gained which is unlikely.  The higher risk would be from an in-house person, or agency with access to the account.  But the risk there is low even if they were to make off with a copy.

Each campaign is an organic system highly dependent upon the website, and ultimately the business that it drives traffic to.  To steal a campaign, you would actually need to also steal the website that it is associated with.  And even then, you would face such an array of problems, it wouldn’t work out well.

PPC Client Intellectual Property Protection

Blastoff Labs takes all issues relating to client PPC-related intellectual property (IP) protection seriously.  We have an IP protection policy which we’ll describe in a forthcoming article.

Some of the key things we do to ensure the security of your campaigns and project information include:

  • No campaign information is downloaded to workstations in Blastoff Labs.
  • All campaign information is stored in highly secure cloud services.
  • Blastoff utilizes multiple cloud services and does not allocate concentrated related information in any cloud service account.
  • Blastoff maintains regular backups (in the cloud) for all client campaigns and intellectual property.
  • Protecting the security of all our client’s campaigns and related project information is a high priority for us.  Clients should also be aware that although digital advertising campaigns can become valuable business assets, it is difficult to steal or copy them successfully.  Each campaign is an organic system highly dependent upon the website, and ultimately business it is connected to.  To steal a campaign, you would actually need to also steal the website that it is associated with.  And even then, you would face such an array of problems, it wouldn’t work out well.
Do you offer a phone or Zoom consultation?2021-03-21T06:53:46+00:00

Yes, we will be most likely be pleased to provide a phone or Zoom consultation to discuss your digital advertising objectives; just complete the form on the Contact page.

To get the most out of a consultation call, please consider the following questions beforehand. You do not need to have all the answers; just the first two are required:

• What business sector do the campaigns operate in? (retail, manufacturing, legal, etc)

• Can you provide a URL for the website?

• What are your business objectives for the campaigns?

• Do you run the campaigns on Google, Microsoft, or both platforms?

• Have you run paid ad campaigns in the past (‘legacy’ campaigns)?

• If you have, what type of campaigns are/were you running (Search, Display, Video, Shopping?)

• How much campaign history, 1+ years? How many parties have managed the campaigns?

• Have you been measuring conversions, and what type are they – e.g. form fill, email, phone calls, messaging?

• Any particular issues with the existing or legacy campaigns, or metrics you are focused on improving?

Will you bid on an RFP for a project?2021-03-21T17:34:49+00:00

When deciding whether to bid on an RFP, we treat it like any other incoming project. If it looks like a good fit for us then we may choose to submit a proposal in response.

Typically, RFPs are issued by large, slower-moving organizations and bureaucracies such as governmental entities, military contractors, and large businesses in lagging business sectors. Their project requirements may, or may not be a fit to an agile, fast-moving, responsive PPC agency but frequently not.

We do give all RFP’s a serious look before deciding whether to participate.

Preparing to Start

What’s the project update interval?2021-03-21T16:56:33+00:00

What is the project update interval?  It varies depending upon the phase of work.

When campaigns are in design, PPC client communications typically include some informal email back and forth to resolve open issues, and weekly to bi-weekly project timeline/milestone updates; they’re built into the schedule for each project as milestones. Once campaigns are launched, during course optimization, twice a month.  For campaigns under longer-term performance management, we send our performance management reports and slide decks monthly.

Blastoff Labs is always reachable to clients by phone, email, or social media to respond to questions and requests.

Is there an onboarding checklist?2021-03-21T16:17:18+00:00

When onboarding PPC projects we’ll send you a list of onboarding checklists, which are some requests that include instructions.

The majority of items are to request you take some simple actions linking accounts. They are actions to set up to make providing any needed materials, account links, media, and questions.

Onboarding steps vary based upon the type of campaign(s), the media requirements, and the state of legacy campaigns and accounts.

We’ll send you a set of links with instructions.  In most cases, this is completed expeditiously and doesn’t require much time.
